Homeopathy

The principles of homeopathy are quite simple (compared to allopathic medicine which must be studied during long years) : if a mineral, vegetal or animal substance creates some particular symptoms on a healthy individual, then an infinitesimal amount of the same substance will cure the symptoms mentioned above on a sick individual.

Let’s see two examples of this principle :

a) The onion (allium cepa) usually makes an healthy person cry, have red eyes or even cough, sneeze… If you give a very tiny dose of the homeopathic remedy (allium cepa) to a sick person who has red eyes with tears (for example sinusitis, allergy…) then it will solve this particular range of symptoms.

b) In the same logic, the bee’s venom triggers in an healthy person a painful swelling that will be reduced by cold. Therefore a small amount of the homeopathic remedy made with bee’s venom (apis mellifica) will cure the pains linked to burns, conjonctivitis, some insects’ bites or whatever symptoms with the same characteristics (painful swelling that gets better with cold applications).

This kind of logic has been applied to more than 2000 animal, vegetal and mineral substances. The gradual effects of these 2000 substances (very often poisonous or toxic) on some volunteers have been precisely studied and described in what is called “materia medica”. Then you just have to define what are the symptoms of the sick person you want to cure and then search for the closest symptoms that you will find in the “materia medica”. After you have to give the corresponding homeopathic dilution to the sick person to cure the symptoms.

This is the theory. We can add that :

a) As a matter of fact, only 200 or 300 homeopathic substances are commonly used (the other ones are reserved to specialists or very particular uses).

b) We can also say that usually many homeopathic books have already made the work of research (comparison between the symptoms you want to cure and the corresponding substances in the “materia medica”) and propose some of the already known most efficient substances in relation with the most frequent diseases and ailments. This is a quicker and simpler way to find the correct homeopathic remedy for any particular condition.

c) We have to notice also that homeopathy do not treat a cold or a flu in itself, but a range of symptoms that can be very different from one person to another. In this case, allopathic medicine would give the same drug to all the patients affected by a common virus to try to kill the virus and therefore suppress the cause at the origin of the cold or of the flu. Homeopathic medicine would rather check what are the external effects triggered by the virus (or by other reasons : cold, exhaustion, allergy, immune weakness…), give the best homeopathic remedy in relation to this range of symptoms (via “materia medica”) and then the body will have a self-defence reaction (a little bit like a vaccine) that will protect him (for example by stimulating the immune system, by restoring balance in disrupted organs…).

Therefore homeopathic medecine does not search in priority the causes of the problem but tries to describe as precisely as possible all the emerging symptoms which can cause discomfort in one way or the other to the individual. When the homeopathic remedy is used then the body (or the soul, or the aura, we don’t know exactly how it works) deals itself with the causes, the imbalances, pains or abnormalities which affect it.

We can note also that homeopathy can deal with a wide range of symptoms and is not limited to “easy to cure” diseases. It can work as a preventive medecine or a curative one. Another advantage is the fact that homeopathy is rather cheap compared to some allopathic remedies. We can also say that homeopathic remedies have little side effects (maybe because they help the body to defend itself).

The main problem is to find the correct homeopathic substance that will deal with the symptoms you want to cure for yourself or others. Each homeopathic remedy acts like a specific key. The only mistake you can make is not to find the correct key. In this case nothing will really happen, and after some time you will have to try another homeopathic substance.

You cannot make big mistakes : or a positive healing happens or nothing happens. Usually the choice has to be made between two or three specific substances.  Therefore this healing method can be easily understood and practiced by individuals with only a limited medical background but cannot be used when the healing is needed urgently.

Note : this very brief presentation of homeopathy cannot replace the information you can find on a complete and serious homeopathic book (I can advise you the simple and well-written “a complete guide to homeopathy” by Alan V.Schmukler which also deals with the subject of isotherapy). The more you read about homeopathy the easier it is to find the correct “keys”.
