Lumbini

Lumbini, a pilgrimage site of Buddhist located in Rupandehi District of Lumbini Zone in Western Region of Nepal.It is one of four Buddhist pilgrimage sites based on major events in the life of Gautama Buddha. The other three sites are in India: Bodh Gaya (enlightenment), Sarnath (first discourse), and Kushinagar (death).
Gautam Buddha was born in Lumbini in 642 BC. Maya Devi (or Mayadevi) gave birth to the Buddha on her way to her parent's home in Devadaha in the month of May in the year .The tree under which Mayadevi gave birth to Gautam Buddha is still there. According to Buddhist Tradition, he walk seven steps immediately after his birth, under each of which a lotus flower bloomed.
Lumbini lies in the foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal, terai region of Nepal. The society around Lumbini is majorly Hindu, but many Buddhist temples and shrines from various nations are scattered around the holy site itself including some of them by China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Korea and many other with oldest Maya Devi temple from Nepal, which enshrines the traditional site of the Buddha's birth. The current temple stands on the site of earlier temples and stupas.
The other main sight of interest at Lumbini is Ashoka's Pillar, Peace flame, temples and stupas by different countries. Lumbini garden is itself a beautifull site of visit located in the entire area of Lumbini.
